Pacific Strategies & Assessments (PSA) works in partnership with the charity organization Wokai.

About Wokai
A non-profit organization that enables Chinese people to lift themselves from poverty, Wokai raises loan capital online from individual contributors for microfinance institutions (MFIs) in China. By doing so Wokai connects contributors worldwide with entrepreneurs in rural China, to help start small businesses and expand opportunities for the country's poor.

Selection of these 'microentreprenuers' is done on Wokai's behalf by local Field Partners, who first identify and then screen potential candidates. Wokai distributes loan capital to their Field Partners for allocation to selected candidates. At the end of the loan cycle, the Field Partners also collect loan repayments and re-issue loans.

How does PSA help?
Wokai takes its corporate governance responsibilities very seriously and has a due diligence team in place to vet each potential Field Partner, by compiling a comprehensive report on their accounting systems, risk-assessment policies, loan portfolio and lending activities, performance, and efficiency. As an important part of this vetting process, PSA provides robust background screening checks on all Field Partner staff.
In recognition of the valuable service Wokai is providing to local communities across China, PSA provides all services to them for free.
